Cross River Rail is a new 10.2 kilometre rail line from Dutton Park to Bowen Hills, which includes 5.9 kilometres of twin tunnels under the Brisbane River and CBD. As part of the project six stations from Salisbury through to Fairfield are receiving station upgrades. The upgrades focus on station accessability, with boosted facilities, infrastructure and a strong focus on design for users with vision impairments and disabilities.

Chelmstone's commercial capabilities have a core focus on tactile ground surface indicators (TGSIs), which allow these station users to safely navigate a platform. Chelmstone produce a warning tactile indicator (notifying those with the aforementioned issue of visual impairement of a nearby hazard such as the edge of a train plaform) and directional tactile indicator (guiding those with visual impairements along a pre-defined, obstacle-free route). Chelmstone's design team worked in collaboration with International award winning Architects, Hassell to produce custom made large format pre-cast concrete tactile pavers and platform coping for Yeronga Station.

Specifically designed for Hassell Architects, Chelmstone produced a combination of large format cautionary and directional tactile pavers, along with our custom designed etched snow platfom coping. The larger format pavers evelate the platforms design.

VOODOO, SNOW & CORN

The contrast between our custom designed Corn and Snow pigments are becoming a common sight across Australia's rail infrastructure. Elevating the luminance and safety provided by Chelmstone's Tactile Pavers.

LOCAL INDUSTRY

During its five-year construction period, Cross River Rail will support up to 7,700 jobs in total with an average of 1,500 jobs each year and up to 3,000 jobs in the most intensive year of construction.

Chelmstone is extremely proud to be part of such an enormous infrastucture project, which will change the transport landscape of Brisbane. Chelmstone is an advocate for local industry, sourcing over 95% of its supply chain and 100% of its craftsmen from South-East Queensland for manufacturing both the tactile pavers and platform coping. Including providing apprenticeships and employing local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.
